Public Charging Is Getting Better. @Home Charging Is Still the Everyday Advantage.
This week brought encouraging news for U.S. EV drivers: public fast charging is becoming more reliable and more satisfying to use. J.D. Power’s 2026 U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience Public Charging Study found DC fast-charging satisfaction increased 12 points year over year, while unsuccessful charging visits fell to a record low. J.D. Power found overall DC fast-charging satisfaction increased 12 points year over year to 666 on its 1,000-point scale. 8. IONNA Takes First Place in J.D. Power’s Fast-Charging Rankings
IONNA ranked highest among eligible DC fast-charging networks with 807 points, followed by Mercedes-Benz Charging Network at 797 and Rivian Adventure Network at 755. The result is notable because IONNA only began operating public chargers in 2025 and is backed by eight major automakers.

9. U.S. Public Charging Approaches 96,000 Locations
By mid-August, the U.S. and Canada had nearly 96,000 public charging locations with more than 294,000 charging ports, according to GreenCars citing U.S. Department of Energy data. DC fast charging alone accounted for more than 18,000 locations and almost 84,000 ports.
