10 Moves Towards Your New #EVLife

Are you thinking of taking the leap and purchasing an electric vehicle? Here are 10 moves to make before driving off the lot toward your green, care-free lifestyle.

1. Find a Reliable EV Charging Network

You may decide to purchase your EV before making an investment towards @Home charging. Unsure where to begin with public charging? Check out this list of 2020’s top EV charging mobile apps.

4. Avoid
Outdated Equipment

To the new EV owner, a Level 1 Charger (120V) seems like a great option; priced around $500. However, these chargers are becoming obsolete due to slow charging speeds. Our Customers have shared that in real life, Level 1 chargers require from 12 up to 24 hours to energize an EV battery. Therefore, we recommend Level 2 Chargers (240V) for the home.

2. Make
Room

Safety should be your top priority when using any electrical appliance. And while at-home EV chargers require less wall space than the average laptop, they can use just as much power as your dryer. DaiTechCorp Pro-Tip: Declutter your garage to make room for your new @Home “gas station.”

5. Choose At-Home Stations by Commercial Makers

More manufacturers of commercial-grade, Level 2 charging stations (commonly found in parking structures) now offer high-quality, Level 2 at Home chargers, which energize at 240V up within 4 to 6 hours.

3. Simplify Your Selection Process

With more than 20 charger brands to choose from and several customization options like charging speed and power rating, you have access to over 120 choices. The experts at
DaiTechCorp has teamed up with industry-leading brands to offer a range of entry-level to premium price points and make shopping simple.

6. Superchargers are NOT Meant for private residences…yet

Starting at about $75,000, Level 3 chargers are intended for commercial settings ONLY.

7. There is an EV Charger for
your Budget

Expect reputable @Home charger prices to range from $400 to $800, excluding installation costs and taxes. Avoid sticker shock. Factor in this extra expense before your final purchase.

10. Incentive Programs Vary by Region

You will qualify for most #EVAdoption incentive programs AFTER you obtain proof of installation and payment. For DMV area customers, DaiTechCorp has compiled a of federal, state and utility companies’ incentives for purchasing EVs and chargers. The federal government tax credits apply nationwide, but non-federal benefits vary by jurisdiction.

8. Hire a Professional

Installing an EV charger is not a DIY project. Always trust a professional with the proper licenses to obtain permits, then complete this complex installation. Engage a company like Dai Technologies Corporation. DaiTechCorp is a licensed General Contractor, with a team of licensed electricians, who each confer more than 25 years of electrical trade experience.

9. Tally Up the Total Cost of Installation

Your total installation costs include the EV charger, permits/inspection fees, and installation costs. No two homes are the same, so installation costs vary, especially when your site conditions are not “standard” or are not plain vanilla. What do we mean by that? Well, “standard conditions” for residential EVCS installations are home:

a) where the Customer intends on locating the EVCS within 10 linear feet away from the household electrical service panel; AND b) there are enough slots in the panel to install a circuit breaker that will accommodate the EVCS’s power load. When your site conditions are “not standard”, your budget will INCREASE according to YOUR specific needs. For example, do you need to run conduit above or below ground for the electric wire to reach your EVCE station? OR, are the electrical circuit panel and the charging station located on the opposite ends of the house? If you answer yes to one or both of these questions, prepare yourself to budget more than you originally anticipated. A word of caution. Don’t expect to pay handyman prices for work that only an experienced licensed electrician is qualified to complete.
